Convenors

Roman Gerodimos is Founder of the GPSG and a Lecturer at the Media School, Bournemouth University, where he teaches political communication and global current affairs. He recently completed his doctoral thesis on online youth civic engagement in the UK. Roman’s background is in international studies and he holds an MSc in European Politics and Policy (LSE). His research interests include Greek, British and European politics, political mobilisation, the public sphere and the civic culture. He has published in scholarly journals and has contributed to many media and academic outlets internationally. Roman won the 2008 and 2009 Bournemouth University Award for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Dr. Andrew Liaropoulos is a Lecturer at the University of Piraeus, Department of International and European Studies. His research interests are: international security, strategy, intelligence, military transformation and foreign policy analysis. He has published articles in the Caucasian Review of International Affairs, Journal of International Security Affairs and Journal of Military History. Andrew Liaropoulos is also a member of the editorial board of the Caucasian Review of International Affairs. From 2005 to 2010 he served as Secretary of the Greek Politics Specialist Group.

Dr. Dimitris Tsarouhas is an Assistant Professor at the Department of International Relations, Bilkent University, Turkey. He is the author of 'Social Democracy in Sweden' (London and NY: IB Tauris, 2008) and co-editor of "Bridging the Real Divide: Social and Regional Policy in Turkey's EU Accession Process" (Ankara: METU Press 2007). His research interests include progressive politics, welfare politics, Europeanization and European integration, Greek political economy and EU-Turkey relations.

Dr. Stella Ladi is a lecturer of Europeanization and Public Policy at Panteion University, Greece.  She is affiliated with the Department of Politics, University of Sheffield as an Honorary Research Fellow.  She previously worked as a lecturer at University of Sheffield and University of Exeter.  She has also been a Research Fellow at the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI).  She has acted as a public policy expert at the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of the Aegean.  In July 2002 she completed her PhD thesis at the University of York.  Her research interests include processes of policy transfer, global governance, comparative public policy, the relationship between Europeanization and globalization and their impact upon domestic public policy, the role of NGOs and experts in the policy process. 
Her latest books are Ladi, S. and Dalakou V. (2008), Introduction to Public Policy and Administration, Patras: Open University Publications (in Greek) and Globalization, Policy Transfer and Policy Research Institutes (2005), Cheltenham: Edward Elgar.

Antonios Aggelakis is a PhD Candidate at the University of Crete, Greece. His interests span technology and innovation policies and systems, regional policies and local development, industrial policies and economic regulation (telecommunications, energy), economic geography and spatial economics. He is a researcher at the technology transfer office of the University of Crete while working on several projects regarding technology transfer, innovation management, regional/local development. He has published several papers on international conferences and journals on these areas of expertise.

Dr. Vasilis Leontitsis recently completed his PhD at the Department of Politics, University of Sheffield. His primary research interests lie in the spheres of territorial politics and public policy. He is also interested in the EU regional and environmental policies and multi-level governance theory. He is a member of the Political Studies Association, the ECPR Standing Group on Federalism and Regionalism, and the Garnet Network.

Prof. Theodore Chadjipadelis is Professor of Applied Statistics at the Department of Political Sciences of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has participated in over 100 conferences in Greece and abroad. His main areas of research interest are: Electoral behavior, Electoral geography, Public opinion research methods, Political analysis, Urban and regional planning, Graph theory, Mathematics and Statistics Education, Social statistics, Social networks, Ecological inference, and e-Government. He has 60 publications in major statistical and political journals in Greece and abroad.  As a private consultant he has been involved in many major projects on statistics education, on social exclusion, on electoral behaviour, on urban and regional planning and innovation in Greece and abroad. He is involved in COST action IS0806 “the European Voter” as member of the managing committee, in the Comparative Candidate Survey as head of the Greek team and he is also involved as country collaborator in PIREDEU Collaborative Project (Capacities Programme). He is member of the board of the National Committee for the Reforms in Administration in Greece (Ministry of the Interior), member of the board of the Institute for Local Government (Greek Local Government Authorities) and member of the board of  Information Society S.A. (Ministry of the Interior).

Prof. Prodromos Yannas is Professor of International and European Relations and Chair of the Department of Public Relations and Communication at the Technological Educational Institution (TEI) of Western Macedonia, Kastoria, Greece. He holds a B.A. from the College of Wooster (1981), a M.A. from Miami University (1982) and a Ph.D. from The School of International Service, The American University (1989). He has taught at The American University and Mount Vernon College in the United States and the Hellenic Naval War College and the Athens University of Economics and Business in Greece. He is a Senior Editor of the "Journal of Political Marketing" and a member of the Editorial Board of the “International Journal of Electronic Government Research”. His research and publications focus on foreign policy process, politics and culture in the Eastern Mediterranean region and political communication.

Dr Marina Petrelli holds a PhD in European Studies from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her doctoral thesis is entitled “The development of CESDP and Greece: Contribution, Role, Consequences”.  She is currently a researcher at the University of Athens / Institute of European Integration and Policy and member of IEIP's monthly newsletter "European Developments". Her research interests include European foreign and defence policy, international relations and diplomacy. Dr. Athanassios N. Samaras is a Lecturer in International Political Communication at the Department of International and European Studies, University of Piraeus. He holds a Ph.D. in political communication from Sussex University (Brighton, UK), an M.A. in applied political communication from Emerson College (Boston USA) an M.A. in communication policy from City University (London, UK) and a B.A. in economics from the University of Piraeus (Greece). His main area of interest is international political communication, political advertising, political marketing, news analysis, frame theory and home front management. He has conducted research for the Hellenic Audiovisual Institute, Institute of Defence Analysis, Institute of Mediterranean Studies, and the University Research Institute of Applied Communication. He is the author of the book Television Political Advertising: A Quantitative Research Study on Greece (in Greek), 12 journal articles and book chapters and has delivered 50 presentations at conferences. He has conducted political campaigns in Greece and Cyprus.

Dr. Anna Vallianatou received her Phd (degree: excellent) from the University of Athens on the role of small and big member states in CFSP and her MA from the University of Bradford on European Integration. She is currently a researcher at the University of Athens / Institute of European Integration and Policy, editor of IEIP's monthly newsletter "European Developments" and researcher at the Greek Centre of European Studies & Research (EKEME). Her research interests are European institutions, CFSP, EU Presidencies and Europeanization.

Dr. Chrisanthos Tassis holds a PhD in Political Science from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His PhD thesis was entitled “PASOK 1974-1996: the building of a hegemonic political party” and was supervised by Prof. M. Spourdalakis. His research interests include political science, party politics, political theory, European politics and economic policy. He is also a member of the Hellenic Political Studies Association and the Economic Chamber of Greece. He is currently teaching Political Parties at the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of Peloponnese.

Anastassios Chardas is a DPhil Candidate in Contemporary European Studies (Saskawa Fellowship), and Associate Tutor at the Sussex European Institute, University of Sussex. Anastassios graduated with a degree in Economic and Regional Development at Panteion University, Athens and holds an MSc in Regional Science from the University of Reading. He has taught courses in Contemporary European Studies and Politics at the School of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies at Sussex. His research interests include comparative political economy, economic sociology, public policy, Europeanisation, institutional approaches to economic development, civil society, EU Regional Policy. His countries of interest are Greece and Ireland.

Dora Giannaki is a political scientist and youth expert. She holds a first degree in Political Science and History from Panteion University and a Master’s degree in Political Theory from Essex University. She is currently conducting doctoral research on the History of European Youth Policies at the University of London. She has worked, as Special Advisor, at the Greek General Secretariat for Youth and, as Research Associate, at the National Accreditation Centre for Continuing Vocational Training. Dora has been a correspondent for Greece at the European Knowledge Centre for Youth Policy for two years and has taken part in a variety of European research projects on youth. She is co-author of ‘The Socio-economic Scope of Youth Work in Europe’ (2007), a study commissioned by the Youth Partnership between the European Commission and the Council of Europe [http://youth-partnership-eu.coe.int/youth-partnership/research/socioeconomicscopeofwork.html]. Her research interests include social history of youth, European youth policies, social democracy and education & lifelong learning policies. Since October 2009, Dora is working as Research Associate at the Hellenic Parliament and Special Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection.

Manto Lampropoulou is a PhD Candidate at the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration (National and Kapodestrian University of Athens). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Operational Research and Marketing (Athens University of Economics and Business) and an MSc in State and Public Policy (National and Kapodestrian University of Athens). She is currently completing a second (Bachelor’s) degree in Public Administration at Panteion University. She is a graduate of the National School of Public Administration. Her dissertation on privatization and liberalization of public utilities is partly funded by a fellowship from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation. She has worked for the Manpower Employment Organization, the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Interior (current occupation). Her research interests focus on public utilities privatization & deregulation, state reform, public administration, public policy, state-citizens relationship. Manto’s paper on the privatization of public utilities won the 2009 GPSG Young Researchers Prize.
